15 Best Things to Do in Gangnam, Seoul: COEX, Apgujeong, Nightlife & More

Gangnam is not one neon intersection. South of the Han River, you can move from a quiet eighth-century temple to a giant indoor mall, from royal tombs to design flagships, and from authenticated pre-owned luxury to a riverside fountain after dark.
Travelers often use “Gangnam” loosely, so this guide covers Gangnam-gu plus the neighboring Seocho stops that naturally belong in the same itinerary, including Nonhyeon and Banpo. The places below are ranked by how useful and distinctive they are for a first or second Seoul trip—not by how famous they look on social media.
Route rule: Gangnam is much larger than it appears on a tourist map. Choose one daytime cluster and one evening cluster; fifteen pins in one day is a taxi tour, not a holiday.

Old Seoul Beside the Skyscrapers
1. Bongeunsa Temple — Best Historic Contrast

Bongeunsa is the cleanest introduction to Gangnam’s contradictions. The temple was founded in 794, yet its tiled roofs now sit opposite COEX and some of Seoul’s busiest commercial blocks. Walk slowly through the gates, look for the large stone Buddha and lantern-filled courtyards, and remember that this is an active religious site rather than a photo set.

7. Seonjeongneung Royal Tombs — Best Quiet Escape

Seonjeongneung protects the tombs of Joseon royalty inside a broad wooded compound, part of the Royal Tombs of the Joseon Dynasty UNESCO World Heritage listing. The atmosphere is deliberately restrained: grassy burial mounds, stone guardians and paths that soften the noise of nearby offices. It is a better reset than another café when COEX or Gangnam Station starts to feel too loud.

2. Starfield Library & COEX Mall — Best All-Weather Half-Day

COEX works because it solves several plans at once. Starfield Library is free to enter, while the surrounding mall adds shopping, restaurants, cinema and an aquarium. Pair it with Bongeunsa across the road for the most efficient culture-to-retail contrast in Gangnam. The complex is enormous, so save the exact entrance and choose a precise meeting point before your group separates.

11. Figure Museum W — Best Small Pop-Culture Stop

Figure Museum W is a compact collection of superheroes, robots, anime characters and art toys near Apgujeong Rodeo. It suits collectors, families and anyone who needs an indoor hour between fashion stops. Its weekday opening window is relatively short and it is normally closed on Mondays, so check the current schedule before building a route around it.

13. Personal Color or K-Beauty Experience — Best Bookable Activity

A personal color consultation is one of the rare Seoul activities that can improve the rest of your shopping trip. Studios around Sinsa, Apgujeong, Cheongdam and Gangnam Station test warm and cool palettes, then recommend clothing, lip and makeup tones. Quality and language support vary, so book a well-reviewed studio in advance and confirm whether the session, written results and product advice are available in your language.

3. tren:be Gangnam Center — Best Pre-Owned Luxury Experience

Most Gangnam itineraries show brand-new luxury but skip what happens after retail. tren:be Gangnam Center fills that gap with a large physical selection of authenticated pre-owned designer bags, wallets and fashion. The useful part is comparison: you can inspect real size, leather, corner wear, hardware, included accessories and price rather than deciding from listing photos alone.
Come with a category and budget, not one exact serial number that may already have sold. A strong route is to see current retail prices in Apgujeong or Cheongdam first, then compare pre-owned value at tren:be before dinner or the river.

4. Apgujeong Rodeo Street — Best for Current Seoul Fashion

Apgujeong Rodeo is less about one attraction than the concentration of fashion, beauty, cafés and showrooms around it. Browse in the afternoon when independent stores are open, then continue east toward Cheongdam as the flagship façades light up. Prices are not the reason to come; discovering Korean labels and watching the district’s visual language are.

5. Cheongdam Luxury Street & K-Star Road — Best Flagship Walk

The walk from Apgujeong Rodeo toward Cheongdam combines maison flagships with K-Star Road, a roughly one-kilometre route marked by character sculptures linked to major K-pop acts. The luxury architecture is strongest toward evening; the K-pop elements are a light layer rather than a guaranteed celebrity encounter. Treat agency buildings as offices, not attractions where someone will appear on cue.
- 📍 Google Maps: K-Star Road and Cheongdam
- 🚇 Get there: Start at Apgujeong Rodeo Station and walk east; Cheongdam Station works for the far end.

6. Dosan Park & Haus Nowhere Dosan — Best for Design and Concept Stores

Dosan Park gives the design district a place to breathe. Around it are brand houses, galleries, cafés and experimental retail, including Haus Nowhere Dosan. The shop interiors can feel closer to exhibitions than ordinary stores, but queues and photo crowds are common around viral launches. Visit late afternoon, use the park as a reset, and continue to Cheongdam after dark.

- 🚇 Get there: About a 10–15 minute walk from Apgujeong Rodeo Station; a short taxi is reasonable with luggage.

10. Garosu-gil — Best for Cafés and a Slower Browse

Garosu-gil is no longer the unstoppable trend street it was a decade ago, and that is precisely why expectations matter. The district still works for cafés, beauty, flagships and a slower browse, but do not travel across Seoul expecting every block to be full. Pair it with Sinsa, Dosan Park or a personal color appointment rather than treating it as an entire day.

8. Banpo Hangang Park — Best Local Evening

Banpo is the evening that balances Gangnam’s polished retail. Buy snacks or instant ramyeon, sit by the water and watch the bridges and north-bank skyline switch on. Weekends in good weather are busy, but the park is broad enough to keep walking until you find space. A mat is useful; open flames and improvised cooking are not.
- 📍 Google Maps: Banpo Hangang Park
- 🚇 Get there: Use Express Bus Terminal Station or Sinbanpo Station, then follow live directions in Naver or Kakao Map.

9. Banpo Bridge Moonlight Rainbow Fountain — Best Seasonal Night View

The fountain sends illuminated water along Banpo Bridge and turns a normal river picnic into a timed event. It is seasonal and can be cancelled for weather, wind, river conditions or maintenance, so check the official Seoul schedule on the same day. Arrive before the announced show time; crossing the park after it starts is an unnecessarily athletic way to watch water.

12. Gangnam Station Underground Shopping Mall — Best Practical Browse

Below the office towers, the station’s underground mall is an everyday mix of affordable clothes, cosmetics, accessories and commuter traffic. It is not a destination for rare Korean design; it is useful for filling small gaps in a suitcase without losing an outdoor sightseeing hour. Exchange policies can be strict, so check size and terms before paying.

14. Noraebang & Gangnam Nightlife — Best After-Dinner Fun

Gangnam Station’s exits 10 and 11 open into dense restaurant, bar, café and karaoke streets. A coin noraebang is easy for one or two songs; a private room is better for a group. Check the room price and any required food or drink order before entering, and keep the last subway in mind unless you are prepared for a taxi surcharge after midnight.

15. A Korean Jjimjilbang — Best Reset Button

After a full Gangnam day, a jjimjilbang makes more sense than another bar. Club K Seoul combines Korean sauna rooms and bathing facilities with wellness and fitness spaces; check current entry rules and operating hours before visiting. Women seeking a women-only option can also look at Spa Lei near Sinsa. Korean bath areas are nude and separated by gender, while shared heated rooms use the provided uniform.

Three Routes That Actually Work

Culture and indoor half-day — Bongeunsa → COEX and Starfield Library → Seonjeongneung if the weather is good.
Fashion and design half-day — Personal color appointment → Apgujeong Rodeo → Figure Museum W or Dosan Park → Cheongdam after dark.
Luxury-to-river evening — Apgujeong or Cheongdam retail prices → tren:be Gangnam Center → Banpo Hangang Park and the seasonal fountain.
Google Maps is useful for saving pins, but Naver Map or Kakao Map is usually more reliable for live walking, bus and subway routing in Korea. Gangnam blocks are large, and a pin that looks adjacent can still involve a long crossing or an inconvenient station exit.
Best Time, Etiquette and What We Would Skip

🌸 Spring and 🍁 autumn are best for Bongeunsa, Seonjeongneung, Dosan Park and the Han River. ☀️ Summer favors COEX, museums and appointments during the humid afternoon, with Banpo after sunset. ❄️ Winter is ideal for malls, cafés, beauty appointments and a jjimjilbang; shorten the riverside portion when wind picks up.
At temples, keep voices low and do not block worshippers for photos. At K-pop-related office buildings, stay on public paths and do not wait in entrances. At independent stores, ask before photographing displays. Carry your passport for eligible tax-free shopping, but ask before payment because participation and minimum spend vary.
What we would skip: trying to cover all fifteen places in one day, visiting the Banpo fountain without checking the seasonal schedule, treating entertainment-company offices as celebrity attractions, and crossing Seoul solely for a viral pop-up whose dates you have not confirmed.
