Gangnam Shopping Top 10: Three Anchor Stores and the Walking Radius Around Each

The problem with shopping in Gangnam isn’t a lack of stores — it’s that the district is enormous. Drop ten pins on a map and you’ll spend the whole day in taxis. So we do what locals do: pick one anchor store, then walk the radius around it. This guide is built exactly that way — three hubs plus one finishing stop, ten places total. Each hub comes with its own map, so start with whichever is closest to your hotel and give it a day. For shopping beyond Gangnam, our Seoul shopping guide picks up where this one ends.
The Gangnam Shopping Top 10 at a Glance
- tren:be Gangnam Center The offline store of Korea’s biggest online pre-owned luxury platform. Around 10,000 authenticated pieces on the floor — nothing in Gangnam comes close for sheer selection. 🚇 Nonhyeon Stn (Line 7) Exit 7, 1 min.
- Shinsegae Department Store Gangnam One of Korea’s largest department stores. The benchmark for brand-new luxury and the anchor of Hub 1. 🚇 Express Bus Terminal Stn (Lines 3, 7, 9), directly connected.
- Goto Mall (Express Bus Terminal Underground Arcade) Hundreds of stalls in one long underground fashion arcade. Paradise for ₩10,000-range finds. 🚇 Connected underground to Express Bus Terminal Stn.
- Galleria Luxury Hall The original Apgujeong luxury address. High-end curation split across EAST and WEST wings. 🚇 Connected to Apgujeong Rodeo Stn.
- Apgujeong Rodeo Street Select shops, brand showrooms and cafes — Gangnam fashion in its present tense. 🚇 Apgujeong Rodeo Stn (Suin-Bundang Line).
- Cheongdam-dong Luxury Street A promenade of maison flagships that doubles as an architecture walk. Worth it even if you buy nothing. 🚇 Between Apgujeong Rodeo and Cheongdam stations.
- Garosu-gil Select shops and flagships under a canopy of ginkgo trees. Same axis as Rodeo, different temperature. 🚇 Sinsa Stn (Line 3, Shinbundang Line) Exit 8.
- Starfield COEX Mall A vast indoor mall built around the Starfield Library. The right answer on a bad-weather day. 🚇 Samseong Stn (Line 2), directly connected.
- Hyundai Department Store Trade Center A department store attached to COEX — mall and depachika in one radius. 🚇 Directly connected to Samseong Stn.
- Gangnam Station Underground Shopping Center The finishing lap you tack onto your ride home. Perfect for cosmetics and fashion odds and ends. 🚇 Underground at Gangnam Stn (Line 2, Shinbundang Line).
Tip: Two hubs per day is plenty in Gangnam. Try for three and you’re no longer shopping — you’re commuting.
🧭 Hub 1 — Banpo & Nonhyeon: Start at Shinsegae, Finish at tren:be
The anchor store is Shinsegae Department Store Gangnam. It’s one of the largest department stores in the country, which makes it the perfect place to check current prices and stock for brand-new luxury in one sweep — and it’s directly connected to Express Bus Terminal Station, the best transit access of any store in Gangnam. Just riding the escalators floor to floor amounts to a full brand tour.

Goto Mall (the Express Bus Terminal underground arcade), in the basement of the same station, is the exact opposite kind of fun. Hundreds of stalls line both sides of a corridor that seems to run the length of a subway line — dresses and jackets start around ₩10,000, and the accessory, phone-case and scarf tables will quietly eat 30 minutes of your life. Our house rule is “two laps”: scout on the way down, buy on the way back. Nowhere else in Seoul lets you swing between a flagship department store and a bargain arcade inside a single building’s radius.

The final piece of this hub is the tren:be Gangnam Center, two subway stops away on Line 7 (Nonhyeon Station). Having just seen brand-new prices at Shinsegae, you can compare pre-owned prices for the same brands minutes later. The order matters for a simple reason: the moment you can compare, shopping suddenly becomes rational.
tren:be Gangnam Center — The Benchmark for Pre-Owned Luxury
tren:be is Korea’s biggest online player in pre-owned luxury, and the Gangnam Center is where that inventory hits a physical floor. Around 10,000 authenticated pieces at any given time — Chanel, Hermès, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Dior, Prada, Celine, Bottega, Loewe, Goyard, up to Rolex and Cartier. Of every pre-owned luxury store our editors have walked, this is the one where “enormous selection” is simply the accurate description. The first floor holds bags, jewelry and watches; the second floor has clothing, shoes and the consignment desk — and since stock turns over daily, it’s a different store every visit.

We have to talk about prices. Compared with Japan — the Tokyo vintage-shop pilgrimage most people picture when they think “second-hand luxury” — bags in Korea, and at tren:be in particular, are notably cheaper. And because the inventory behind it is the largest online in the country, you can line up several examples of the same model in different conditions and years — that’s the decisive difference. Every item has passed a professional authenticator, so you won’t find yourself googling stitching patterns in the aisle.

- 📍 4-5 Sinbanpo-ro 47-gil, Seocho-gu, Seoul (1F) · 🚇 Nonhyeon Stn (Line 7) Exit 7, 1 min on foot
- 🕙 Daily 10:00–21:00 (consignment desk 10:00–19:00)
- 💳 International cards accepted, English-speaking staff, tax refund with your passport, parking for visitors — details on the official store page
Tip: Walking in fixed on “that one bag” is a recipe for disappointment. The joy of a pre-owned store is the serendipity of the stock — decide on a category and a budget, then compare several pieces. Satisfaction rates are much higher that way.
Hub 2 — Apgujeong Rodeo, Cheongdam & Garosu-gil: The Original Luxury Axis
The anchor store is the Galleria Luxury Hall. Its facade — thousands of glass discs that begin to glow at dusk — is a declaration that the luxury district starts here. As the original Apgujeong luxury address, its curation across the EAST and WEST wings remains the sharpest in the neighborhood.

Cross over to Apgujeong Rodeo Street and the temperature changes. Minimalist select shops, brand showrooms, and impeccably dressed people moving between them — people-watching here is at least half the entertainment.

Head east and you reach Cheongdam-dong Luxury Street, where maison flagships compete in an open-air architecture contest. You don’t need to buy a thing — especially after dark, when the facades light up, the walk itself is the content.

In the opposite direction, toward Sinsa, Garosu-gil runs along the same axis at a different temperature — select shops and cafes under the ginkgo trees make it the perfect leg-rest segment of this hub.

Tip: This axis belongs to the afternoon and evening. Many select shops don’t open until around noon, and Cheongdam only becomes itself once the lights come on.
Hub 3 — Samseong COEX: The All-Indoor Radius
The anchor store is Starfield COEX Mall. Fashion, beauty, bookstores and restaurants all connect indoors around the Starfield Library, which makes this the correct answer on hot or rainy days. It’s also the only hub directly connected to its station (Samseong, Line 2) — the one place in Gangnam where dragging a suitcase while shopping is genuinely fine.

Fold in the adjoining Hyundai Department Store Trade Center and you can move between mall and department store in a single step. The dessert counters in the basement food hall are the best mid-shopping sugar stop in the district.

The Finishing Radius — Gangnam Station, and How to Plan Your Route
The Gangnam Station Underground Shopping Center is less a destination than a lap you add on the way back to your hotel. Cosmetics and fashion-accessory shops line both sides of the transfer corridor, so you naturally pick up whatever your trip still needs on the way to Line 2 or the Shinbundang Line.
Here’s how we’d plan it: 🗓️ With one day, Hub 1 (Shinsegae → Goto Mall → tren:be) is plenty. With two, start Hub 2 in the afternoon of day two and end with Cheongdam after dark. If you have a third day, take Hub 3 at a slow pace. One thing to skip — hunting for souvenir shops in Gangnam. Spend that time at Goto Mall instead; you’ll find something more fun.
Tip: Tax refunds work differently store to store — and as a foreign visitor you should be claiming them. Department stores handle everything at a central desk, tren:be processes it in-store if you bring your passport, and some small select shops don’t offer it at all. One question before you pay — “Tax free?” — settles it every time.
